The Legal Services Authority will conduct state-wide awareness programmes with Durga Puja organizers to prevent noise pollution. The district and police administrations will be involved in these events. The joy of Puja should not pose a risk to anyone's life. This initiative to increase legal awareness for preventing noise pollution comes after reports emerged of a seven-year-old child dying of heart failure due to the loud noise and vibration of a DJ, stated Ved Pratim Debbarma, the Member Secretary of the State Legal Services Authority.
The Legal Services Authority stated that under the direction of Executive Chairman Justice Dr. T. Amarnath Goud, a decision has been made to launch a special legal awareness campaign named 'Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah'—which means 'May all be happy and well.' The main objective of this campaign is to make people aware of the health risks caused by the unregulated use of sound systems during religious and social events, and to deliver the message of complying with the law to curb noise pollution. The guidelines particularly expressed concern over the impact of excessive noise on children, the elderly, and people suffering from various physical ailments.
Following the directive of the Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), the District Legal Services Authority and Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committees in each district will organize these awareness programs. This event will take place on Sunday afternoon at the District and Sessions Court premises in Agartala.
The District and Sessions Judge, along with other judges, will be present. Representatives from the police, district administration, Puja organizers, and sound system workers will participate in the program. Detailed discussions will be held regarding the legal rules for using sound, the responsibilities of Puja organizers and sound system vendors, and the powers and duties of the police if rules are violated. The authorities responsible for granting permission or regulating the organization of Durga Puja will also present in the awareness programme.
