Lok Sanskriti Sansad demands workshop for folk singers

A five-member delegation from the Tripura Lok Sanskriti Sansad engaged in a pivotal meeting with the Principal of Sachin Debbarman Memorial Govt. Music College Monika Das on Friday. The delegation was led by President Arun Nath and General Secretary Lilen Deb, presented a two-page memorandum outlining a strategic vision for the enhancement of the state’s folk music tradition.

The memorandum emphasized the need for a seven-day training camp aimed at the skill enhancement of local folk artists and proposed the introduction of a dedicated folk song education course at the Govt. Music College. Principal Das lauded the initiative as commendable and expressed a firm commitment to realizing the training camp. Furthermore, she pledged to engage in discussions with the Department of Higher Education to facilitate the inception of a folk song teaching course within the college curriculum.

This initiative aligns with the statements made by the Higher Education Minister on July 7, 2023, during an assembly session, where a plan to commence a folk song education course in the academic year 2024-25 was disclosed. The delegation’s meeting with Principal Das included a thorough dialogue on this subject, indicating a concerted effort to bring this plan to fruition.

Additionally, the delegation put forth a request for the arrangement of accommodation facilities for all participants of the proposed workshop. In response, Principal Das assured the delegation of her attentive consideration and promised to take affirmative action towards this request.

The delegation comprised esteemed members including Arun Nath, Lilen Deb, Kabir Krishna Datta, Pritam Acharya, and Khokan Biswas, who collectively represent the vibrant cultural spirit of Tripura. Their efforts mark a promising step towards the enrichment of the state’s folk music heritage and the educational opportunities for aspiring artists.
