Man accused of impregnating widow surrenders before police
In a shocking incident involving a widow who delivered a stillborn baby, the accused surrendered before police on Tuesday at Khowai.
According to sources, Anukul Paul of North Chebri under Khowai police station allegedly developed an illicit physical relationship with a widow over the past one and a half years. As a result of the relationship, the woman became pregnant and later delivered a stillborn child.
It is alleged that for nearly 15 days, Anukul Paul repeatedly subjected the widow to mental harassment and forcibly pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. Under intimidation and psychological pressure, the woman was allegedly compelled to consume abortion pills provided by the accused. After taking the medication, her health deteriorated severely.
As her condition worsened, she was admitted to Chebri Primary Health Centre. Initially, the woman reportedly concealed the facts from the attending doctor. However, the physician grew suspicious and, after conducting medical examinations, confirmed that she was pregnant. Soon after, the widow delivered a dead baby.
Following the spread of the incident in the locality, residents became agitated and began searching for the accused, who had gone into hiding. On Tuesday morning, Anukul Paul finally appeared and surrendered before the authorities at the Khowai Women Police Station. Police have taken up the matter for further investigation.
