Man drowned in river Manu, body recovered
In another tragic incident, one day labourer, who went to catch fishes in the river water of Manu on Saturday, accidentally drowned in the river water and his body was recovered on Sunday by a team of NDRF and SDRF.
Police sources said that in the tragic incident Jalai Panchayat, Ward No. 6 of Ballehar village under Kailashahar police station of Unakoti district , a man named Sreedam Mahishya Das alias Kutoo ( 35), drowned in the Manu River while fishing with a rod around 3 PM on Saturday.
After the incident was reported, police in association with firefighters, NDRF and SDRF volunteers started a rescue operation, but till Saturday evening could not trace his body.
Again, on Sunday morning the volunteers started their rescue operation and in the afternoon, they managed to recover the body of Sreedam.
The entire Ballehar village in Chandipur constituency is mourning the heartbreaking incident., who was a daily wage laborer by profession, had gone fishing with his rod as usual but never returned home.
Police added that after the post-mortem, Sreedam’s body was handed over to his family. According to family sources, Sreedam was the father of a daughter and a son. His untimely death has cast a deep shadow of grief over Ballehar and the surrounding areas.
It may be recalled here that two minor girls drowned in a dig inside a kiln at Simna area of West Tripura on Friday afternoon during heavy Monsoon rain, when they were trying to catch fishes in a shallow pit dug in a field for kiln.
