A youth was arrested for killing his 65- years old mother in Radhapur village of Dharmanagar under North Tripura district.

Giving details of the matricide incident, SDPO(Dharmanagar) Debasish Saha  said that accused son Raju Debnath (30) killed his mother with an axe two days ago after his mother refused to pay him some money and after hot altercation with his mother, Raju attacked her with an axe and hit her repeatedly till her death.

Police said that the neighbours of deceased Shanti Debnath (65) got to know the incident when they were alarmed by an electric meter reader, who had gone to that house on Monday to collect meter reading and found the house has been locked from inside and there were several blood stains in front of the house.

The electric meter reader immediately informed the local villagers and they, with police, stormed the house and when Raju opened the door, they found the decomposed body of Shanti Debnath’s body in a pool of blood.

Police added that they arrested the accused son and after post-mortem, the mortal remains were handed over to her husband Gitendra Debnath on Tuesday for last rites, who is living in Agartala for his work purpose.

Sources said that the deceased woman was deserted by her husband about 14 years ago and the only daughter got married in Assam. Raju became mentally distressed and he along with his mother ran their family in very poor condition and his mother, who worked as a daily wage earner, had run their family in poverty.
