Melarmath stabbing incident: Injured mobile shop owner died, 4 TSR jawans closed for negligence in duty

In the sensational and brutal stabbing incident held inside a mobile store in Melarmath  area of Agartala, the injured trader after battling for life for last 48 hours died on Thursday afternoon at GB Hospital due to his critical wounds.

On Tuesday (October 15) evening amidst huge crowds over the ongoing immersion of Goddess Durga, in a bizarre and daring incident, mobile shop owner Hari Shankar Saha (64) of Agartala’s Melarmath area was stabbed by an insane youth in front of a crowd and critically injured him.

The videos of the incident of stabbing multiple times to a mobile shop owner inside his shop at crowded Melarmath areas creates massive reaction across the state and after the incident, onlookers and some local youths had also manhandled the assailant, identified as Rahul Roy (35), who is also admitted in G Hospital in critical condition.

SP(West) Kiran Kumar said that four TSR jawans of 7th battalion posted at that area have been closed for dereliction of duty and an enquiry has been ordered.

He said that a SDPO level enquiry has been ordered to find out the role of police and TSR personnel posted at that area and within two days, enquiry report have to be submitted before the authority.

Kiran Kumar said that as per preliminary investigations, police found that assailant Rahul Roy was a mentally ill person and had some financial transaction with the mobile shop owner, Hari Shankar Saha. On Tuesday evening, assailant entered the shop with a sharp weapon and after a heated altercation; he started stabbing the sexagenarian man.

The SP (West) Kiran Kumar said that the condition of the assailant is still very critical, who suffered multiple injuries when he was manhandled after stabbing Hari Shankar Saha.

He said that the West Agartala police station has registered a specific FIR over the incident and people who were responsible for manhandling the accused youth will also not be spared and police will take all legal action against them.

While, on Thursday afternoon after the post-mortem, the mortal remains of Hari Shankar Saha was brought in front of his shop in the Melarmath area, where local people and other shop owners paid their last tributes.
