Minor raped by home tutor's husband, court sentence 20-years jail
In a significant judgement, the District and Session court of Unakoti district sentenced 20-years rigorous imprisonment to husband of a home teacher for raping a 11-years old minor.
Giving details special public prosecutor (PP) Sunirmal Deb said that the victim 11-year-old minor was raped by her home tutor's husband while she was studying at her home tutor's house. The incident took place in Kumarghat police station area.
On Thursday, the District and Sessions Judge has convicted an accused in the court for raping an 11-year-old minor.
He said that the victim, a minor girl of sixth-grade, used to go to the house of one of her home tutors to study. Taking advantage of the opportunity when the home tutor was performing puja (worship) at home or was not at home, the woman's husband, Harkumar Debnath (44), would often rape the minor girl. After the girl went to the teacher's house on July 5, 2023, she would not agree to go to the teacher's house again.
Later, the girl's family members came to know that the girl was often forcibly raped and the girl's father filed a case against Harkumar Debnath at Kumarghat police station on July 8, 2023 last.
Deb said that the investigating officer of the case, women police Inspector, Mandira Debnath, submitted the charge sheet of the case on July 31, 2023 and a total of 12 witnesses submitted their statements during trial of the case, said Deb.
He added that on Thursday Special Judge, Amarendra Kumar Singh sentenced the accused Harkumar Debnath to 20 years in prison, a fine of Rs 11,000 and four months in prison in default under different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and IPC. Special PP Sunirmal Dev conducted the case for the government.
