In a rare example of social degradation was set by a mother — the very one who gave birth and over an extramarital affair, a mother strangled her five-month-old daughter to death with a pillow at Rampada Para ADC village under Sonamura police station on Sunday.
Many consider extramarital relationships to be a social disease. In today’s society, the moral decline brought about by such affairs seems to have no foreseeable end and now, a five-month-old child had to lose her life due to such an affair.
The incident took place in Rampada Para ADC Village under Sonamura police station. According to reports, around Sunday morning, one housewife Suchitra Debbarma strangulated her five-month-old daughter with a pillow. Her husband, Amit Debbarma, earns a living through rubber tapping. The couple also has a seven-year-old son. For over a year, Suchitra Debbarma had developed an illicit relationship with a neighbor, which had become the main cause of unrest in the family. That unrest ultimately led to the tragic death of the infant girl.
After receiving the information of the tragic incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Tapash Das along with a large police team, rushed to the spot and arrested “monster” mother in human form. Police recovered the lifeless body of the five-month-old child and shifted her into Sonamura Hospital for autopsy.
OC Tapash Das said on Sunday morning, in Rampada Para ADC Village, Amit Debbarma’s wife, Suchitra Debbarma, killed their five-month-old daughter, Rimi Debbarma, by strangulation with a pillow inside their home. Preliminary reports suggest that she committed this heinous crime under the instigation of another person and the accused woman was arrested after a formal complaint lodged by the grandfather, Nani Debbarma.
Police have already started investigation to determine who instigated the crime, and police hoped that the person responsible will be identified and brought under the purview of the law.
