Tension gripped Kumarghat of Unakoti district on Tuesday after the body of a 22-year-old man was recovered from an area near the Bhavatarini Temple under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Das, son of Sajal Das, a resident of Rajnagar in Fatikroy.
According to family members, Suman had left home on Monday but did not return. Despite extensive searches, the family was unable to trace him. On Tuesday, locals spotted his body near the Bhavatarini Temple and informed the Kumarghat Police Station.
Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body with the assistance of local residents, and shifted the body to Kumarghat Hospital. It was later sent to the Fatikroy Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The victim’s family alleged that there were injury marks on Suman’s head and face, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding his death. They have demanded a fair and impartial investigation from the Kumarghat police to determine the exact cause of death.
Following the post-mortem, the body will be handed over to the family, and the last rites will be performed at his residence in Rajnagar, Fatikroy.
The news of Suman’s death has left his family and relatives devastated. He is survived by his parents, a brother, and several relatives.
Family members said Suman had previously worked in Bengaluru for employment but had recently returned home and was assisting his father in running an Ayurvedic medicine business to support the family.
Police have initiated an investigation, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report and further inquiry.
