NLU, Tripura’s Centre for ADR honoured at ‘SAMMAN – Honouring the Pathbreakers of Mediation’
The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at National Law University(NLU), Tripura has been recognized and honored at the prestigious awards ceremony “SAMMAN – Honouring the Pathbreakers of Mediation,” organized by the Association for India International Mediation & Arbitration Services (AIIMAS) in New Delhi on November 5, 2025, marking the 5th anniversary of AIIMAS.
The recognition celebrates the Centre’s significant contribution to promoting mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in the northeastern region of India. Over the past two years, the Centre for ADR at NLU Tripura has emerged as a vibrant hub for research, training, and awareness in the field of consensual dispute resolution. At the ceremony, AIIMAS conferred a special recognition to the Research Centre on Alternative Dispute Resolution, established within NLU Tripura, for its steady progress and leadership in fostering a culture of mediation and arbitration among legal professionals, students, and community stakeholders in the region. The NLUT’s research centre aims to now take mediation services to the village panchayats in Tripura in partnership with the Department of Panchayat. Such tailored programme for the rural societies will be facilitated by AIIMAS, New Delhi which has signed an MoU with NLU Tripura for collaborative efforts to promote mediation for the larger benefit of the common man.
Receiving this honour, Prof. Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar of NLU Tripura who is also heading the centre for ADR at NLUT expressed gratitude to AIIMAS for acknowledging the university’s ongoing efforts toward building a robust ADR ecosystem. Prof. Mittal is a leading expert and has lectured on Mediation and Indian perspective at Toledo Law School, Ohio, Miami Dade College, Florida and Georgia State University College of Law, Atlanta. The recognition reinforces the University’s vision of becoming a national leader in legal education, innovation, and dispute resolution excellence.
