Notorious chain snatcher arrested with looted jewellery
A notorious thief, responsible for snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman from her residence at Chandrapur area under East Agartala police station was arrested with stolen gold chain on Sunday.
Giving details, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy said that on July 5th last, two youths went to the house of one lonely lady, Bisaka Debnath (69) at Chandrapur area of Agartala and told her they are daily labourers and clean jungle, trees of house. Then, the lady asked them to clean the garbage from her house.
But, after a few minutes of work, two youths with lethal weapon threatened the lady to give her gold chain from her neck else they would kill her, said SDPO and added that the terrified lady immediately handed over her gold chain.
After the incident, the old lady with her neighbours lodged a complaint at East Agartala police station and police, based on her statement, started an investigation to identify the accused thieves.
A police team led by OC Rana Chatterjee through swift action managed to identify one thief as Biswajit Tanti and arrested him from his residence at Laxmi Lunga area of Bamutia and recovered the stolen gold chain under his possession, who was an infamous chain snatcher and a member of gold chain snatching gang.
SDPO said that arrested thief Biswajit Tanti was forwarded before a local court with police remand appeal on Sunday and hoped that after interrogating him, police will be able to arrest another accused.
