It may be recalled here that a wave of shock and tension has gripped Dharmanagar town in North Tripura district after suicide of BJP councillor Rahul Kishore Roy, just a day after the by-election results were announced on May 4.

Rahul Kishore Roy, councillor of Ward No. 5 of Dharmanagar Municipal Council and Mandal President of the BJP Yuva Morcha, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence on May 5 morning, a day after the BJP candidate’s victory in the by-election was declared on May 4, triggering widespread speculation and concern.

The wife of the deceased councillor, filed an FIR against seven miscreants, who were attacked on their house after bypoll results, identified as Kankan Chowdhury, Hirakjyoti Nath,  Manoj Purokayastha, Niladri Bhattarcharjee, Abhijit Das, Suraj Deb and Prabal Deb.

Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the police will take all necessary steps to conduct an impartial investigation into the death of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Rahul Kishore Roy after his body was found in the bathroom of his residence in North Tripura district.

The Chief Minister in a Facebook post said: "I would like to assure that the allegations brought forward by his (Roy's) wife will be thoroughly and impartially investigated, and appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law." "I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Rahul Kishore Roy, Mandal President of Yuva Morcha in Dharmanagar. I pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul and extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members," Chief Minister Dr Saha added in his social media statement.

Deceased’s wife said that a group of seven miscreants allegedly owing allegiance to the ruling BJP and closely associated with the newly elected BJP MLA Jahar Chakraborty and his wife Barnali Goswami, former chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) visited Roy’s house on the afternoon of May 4 and night prior to the incident, where he was humiliated and assaulted. She claimed to have identified the accused and alleges that the incident was premeditated, possibly with political motives.

His wife also alleged that she, along with her elderly father-in-law and mother-in-law, were assaulted by the same group of 'miscreants' and she on Wednesday directly blamed newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty and his wife Barnali Goswami solely responsible for the death of her husband.
