One-year-old child abducted from high-security zone in Agartala; rescue operation launched
In a shocking incident, a one-year-old boy was abducted by an unidentified woman from one of Agartala’s highest security zones, near Shishu Bihar School, on Wednesday afternoon. The kidnapping occurred in an area adjacent to the official residence of the Chief Minister and several state cabinet ministers.
Following an alert to the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), police patrol teams immediately rushed to the spot. The ERSS team collected CCTV footage from Smart City surveillance cameras installed in the vicinity and registered the case at West Agartala police station.
Police sources said the victim’s mother, identified as Dipali Shil of Amtali under West Tripura district, often visits Agartala with her two sons — a five-year-old and a one-year-old — to beg for survival after her husband, a daily wage labourer, fell ill.
The incident took place when Dipali went to use the public toilet near Shishu Bihar School. Taking advantage of the moment, an unidentified woman allegedly snatched the baby and fled the area in an auto-rickshaw.
On hearing her cries for help, local people and pedestrians rushed to her assistance and promptly informed both ERSS and Child Line.
Police said CCTV footage clearly shows a woman fleeing with the child. Authorities have taken Dipali and her elder son into protective custody and launched a citywide search operation to track down the accused and rescue the abducted child.
As of the latest update at 10 PM on Wednesday, the child had not yet been found.
