Pdday procurement at MSP begins: Govt continues efforts to double farmers' income, Food Minister

A target has been taken to double the income of the country's farmers by 2024. The Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken various schemes for the welfare of farmers to achieve this goal. The state government is also making efforts to double the income of farmers.

Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this while launching the procurement of kharif paddy at minimum support price from the farmers at Natmandir in Bairagibazar of Sonamura sub-division yesterday. The Food Minister said that in 2018, the current state government has taken various plans for the development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers. One of these is purchase of paddy from farmers at minimum support price. The farmers of the state are benefiting from this. This program is helping to double the income of farmers.

At the program, the Food Minister said that for the purchase of kharif paddy from the farmers, 49 paddy procurement centres have been opened in the state. Among which, there are 9 paddy procurement centres in Sepahijala district. The Food Minister said, in the coming days, one paddy purchase centre will be opened in each 58 blocks of the state. A target of purchasing 50 thousand metric tons of kharif paddy has been taken in the state this time. This time paddy will be purchased from farmers at the rate of 2 thousand 183 rupees per quintal. So far 1 lakh 75 thousand 781 metric tons of paddy has been purchased from the farmers in the state. In this, 327.9 crore rupees have been paid directly to the farmers' bank accounts.

Sabhadhipati  of Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Supriya Das Dutta, MLA Bindu Debnath, Chairman  of Nalchar Panchayat Samiti Jawaharlal Ghosh, Social Worker Debabrata Bhattacharya, Additional District Magistrate of Sepahijala District VL Duati, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sonamura Sub-Division Maniklal Das and others were present on the occasion. Welcome address was given by the Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Sharadindu Das.
