A joint team of police personnel from Amtali and Teliamura police stations conducted a raid at the residence of an abductor in Khashiamangal Dayarampara under Teliamura police station on Sunday, in connection with the abduction of a 14-year-old minor girl. However, the accused reportedly fled into a dense forest with the girl after spotting the police vehicle.
Police sources said that the minor girl, a resident of the Kanchanmala area under Amtali police station of West Tripura district, was allegedly abducted around 10 days ago after being lured with various promises. The accused has been identified as Joni Debbarma, son of Ravi Debbarma, a resident of Khashiamangal Dayarampara in the Teliamura area of Khowai district.
Following the incident, the girl’s father lodged a written complaint at Amtali police station, alleging that Joni Debbarma had abducted his daughter. Police subsequently launched an investigation to trace the girl and apprehend the accused.
Acting on a tip-off, Amtali Police, accompanied by Teliamura Police personnel, raided the accused’s residence on Sunday afternoon. However, upon noticing the police vehicle from a distance, the accused allegedly fled towards a nearby forest with the minor girl.
Police conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area for several hours in an attempt to rescue the girl and apprehend the accused, but neither could be traced.
Police also questioned the accused’s parents, asking why they had not informed the authorities despite allegedly knowing that their son was hiding with the minor girl following the incident. However, the parents reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Speaking to the media, the accused’s mother also acknowledged the incident. The minor girl’s family and local residents have urged Amtali Police to take prompt legal action against the accused, arrest him and ensure the safe recovery of the minor girl.
