Police seized huge quantities of unclaimed drugs from Sonamura border
In a significant seizure of narcotic items, the police personnel from Sonamura police station of Sepahijala district on Thursday seized huge quantities of drugs including Yaba tablets and dry Cannabis (Ganja) worth crores from a bordering area.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonamura police station, Tapash Das said that on Thursday morning during regular police patrolling along with BSF jawans, security forces noticed some abandoned bags lying in a deserted area of NC Nagar border.
In the course of searching these unclaimed bags, forces recovered huge quantities of Yaba tablets, weighing 2.5 kilograms and 12 more kilograms of dry Ganja from two plastic drugs.
Police seized these drugs, worth above rupees crores and registered a specific case under NDPS Act.
He said that police have also launched an investigation to find out the smugglers related with the seizure of these drugs. Das added that due to tight surveillance of border areas for joint forces of Tripura police and BSF, suspected smugglers were unable to deliver their consignment of drugs towards Bangladesh.
