Retired IG of Tripura Police Arindam Nath passes away
Former IG of Tripura Police (IPS) and renowned writer Arindam Nath passed away after a long illness at a Bangalore based hospital on Saturday morning at the age of 62.
He was under treatment at that hospital in Bengaluru for a serious heart ailment for over one month and was in ventilation. Nath had also undergone a bypass surgery two years ago. Finally, on Saturday morning at about 10 AM, he lost the battle for life and breathed his last.
He is survived by his wife who is a serving doctor in Tripura health service and a son who is an engineer.
Sudden demise of Nath has cast a shadow of deep grief and mourning across the state.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed his deep grief over the sudden demise of Nath and in his social media post said “I am deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Arindam Nath, retired IPS officer of the state and eminent writer. He will always be appreciated by the people of the state for his dedication to his duties as a successful police officer and outstanding contribution to literature. May God bless his departed soul.”
Nath, a true gentleman, was an efficient officer during his service life and contributed his best for the elimination of insurgency from the soil of Tripura.
One of the most well-known police officers Tripura during his long tenure as Tripura Police Service (TPS) officer, Arindam Nath was a man from North Tripura district born in the year 1962 and had served for a short period in the Kamalpur higher secondary school as a teacher of physics before joining the police service. As an honest and straightforward officer, he had played a very important role in combating insurgency in the state and in curbing criminal activities and risen from the rank of DSP to that of IG through his hard and dedicated service after being conferred the status of IPS.
Besides being a police officer of repute Arindam Nath was also a well-known writer and penned many books on his experience as police officer.
Many important political and cultural personalities in the state have mourned the death of Arindam Nath. His family sources said that mortal remains of Nath will reach Agartala by air from Bangalore on Sunday for last rites.
