Road mishap inside a tea garden in Kailashahar, driver lynched to death
A tense situation prevails in the Kalishasan tea garden area of Kailashahar after a young man was lynched to death by enraged villagers issuing a road mishap.
A Maruti car, driving recklessly at high speed in the Kalishasan tea garden area, hit a tea garden worker and then fell into a concrete drain. Immediately after the crash, the driver and other passengers in the car fled into the tea garden to hide themselves, when some villagers tried to attack them.
Later, agitated villagers began searching for the driver and other passengers in the tea garden. After a long search, they found the driver and brutally beat him to death. They then left his body inside the tea garden.
Meanwhile, the tea garden worker, Logen Urang, suffered a broken leg due to the car hit.
The enraged villagers set the Maruti car on fire, burning it completely.
After the incident senior police officials Unakoti District Superintendent of Police (SP), Sudhambika R., Additional SP L. Vanglima Darlong, SDPO(Kailashahar) Jayanta Karmakar, and OC of Kailashahar Police Station , Sukanta Sen Chowdhury, accompanied by a large police and TSR force rushed to the spot .
Police identified the deceased driver as Pradip Das, a resident of Ratiabari area in Kumarghat.
Firefighters from Kailashahar also arrived at the scene, doused the fire, and rescued the severely injured tea garden worker Logen Urang. He was taken to the Unakoti District Hospital.
Police said that another young man who had been in the car, named Nirmal Das, emerged from the tea garden and surrendered to the police. He was taken to Kailashahar Police Station. Nirmal Das is a resident of Pecharthal Bazar area.
According to Nirmal Das, there were three people in the car: Pradip Das (the owner and driver), Nirmal himself (seated next to the driver), and another young man named Dipan Debnath, who was sitting in the back. Dipan is from the Kumarghat area.
Police sources added that they started investigation over the lynching incident and added that soon they will able to arrest accused persons.
