School bus overturned to save a lady at Bypass road, 11 students injured, pedestrian killed
In a tragic road mishap, altogether 11 school students suffered injuries, when their school bus moving in the Agartala Bypass road tried to save a lady, who was crossing the road with a goat, but the bus overturned in fall in the roadside drain causing grievous injuries to pedestrian lady on Friday.
Giving details of the road traffic accident (RTA), OC of Amtali police station, Paritosh Das said that the bus number-2 of Montfort School, near Bypass road of Khayerpur area was moving towards its destination Madhuban-Kathaltali area of Bypass road with school children after the school classes over.
When the bus reached the Madhuban-Kathaltali point of the Bypass road, one lady with her goat tried to cross the road and all of sudden the school bus driver pressed brakes to save the lady.
But, the driver couldn't control his speeding bus and dashed the lady and fell in a roadside drain with an overturn.
As a result, altogether 11 students ( from class-5 to 8th standard) boarded the bus, suffered minor injuries and the lady, identified as Khalan Sarkar, suffered critical injuries, said OC.
He said that after the road mishap, local people, police and firefighters immediately rushed to the spot and rescued all injured students and were shifted to Tripura Medical College (TMC) at Hapania.
The firefighters also shifted the critically injured lady to GB Hospital, but during treatment she succumbed due to her critical injuries.
Das added that all the injured students were released from the hospital after primary treatments. He also said that police have registered a case and seized the offending vehicle, but the school bus driver remained untraceable.
While, After the road mishap, Chief Minister Dr Saha through a social media post said that “I have come to know about the news of several students of a private school being injured in a tragic bus accident that took place in the area adjacent to the rail bridge on the Amtali bypass road in Agartala. I have already made detailed inquiries about the treatment of the injured students. I wish them a speedy recovery.
Along with this, the police administration has been instructed to take necessary action after investigation.”
