Senior Central Customs and GST official Prakash Singh is on a visit to Tripura as part of an initiative to assess administrative challenges, trade-related issues and the functioning of the departments across seven states under his jurisdiction.

Since assuming his posting, Singh has been handling matters related to Customs, GST and Central Excise in seven states. As part of his responsibilities, he has undertaken visits to each state to gain first-hand knowledge of local issues, difficulties faced by the business community and various matters concerning Customs administration.

He has already completed visits to six states, with Tripura being the seventh and final state on his tour.

The primary objective of the visit is to familiarize himself with the local situation and hold discussions with senior departmental officials, representatives of various port organizations and members of the business community. The visit will also help identify areas requiring special attention in connection with Customs and GST-related matters.

Asked about the functioning of the department in Tripura, Singh said that following the introduction of GST in 2017, a new Commissionerate was established in the state under the Central department.

He further pointed out that, for the first time since the formation of the Commissionerate, a regular Commissioner has now been posted in Tripura.

Singh said that the process of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the department’s functioning and the overall situation in the state was currently underway.
