The Election Department of Tripura will undertake a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Rolls, 2026, beginning on September 5, with the final electoral roll scheduled to be published on December 23, 2026, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brijesh Pandey announced during a press briefing in Agartala on Friday.
Addressing the media at Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Friday afternoon, CEO Brijesh Pandey said the Special Intensive Revision has been notified by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for 19 States and Union Territories, including Tripura, to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate, inclusive, updated, and free from duplicate, shifted, deceased, or otherwise ineligible entries.
“The objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that every eligible elector is included in the electoral roll while ensuring that no ineligible person remains enrolled,” Pandey said. He informed that October 1, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date for the revision.
The CEO stated that Tripura has 60 Assembly Constituencies, 3,356 polling stations, and approximately 28.97 lakh electors, including 14.52 lakh male and 14.45 lakh female voters.
Explaining the revision process, Pandey said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits from September 15 to October 14, distributing pre-filled Enumeration Forms to existing electors. Each BLO will visit every household three times to assist voters in verifying and completing their forms.
He clarified that no documents will be collected during the house-to-house enumeration phase. If additional verification becomes necessary, the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will issue notices after the publication of the draft electoral roll, allowing electors to submit supporting documents. He also noted that while Aadhaar may be accepted for identity verification, it will not be treated as proof of citizenship.
Pandey further informed that the Draft Electoral Roll will be published on October 21, after which claims and objections can be filed until November 20. The final electoral roll will be published on December 23, 2026 following the disposal of all claims and objections.
Highlighting the preparations, the CEO said 3,356 BLOs and 375 BLO Supervisors will be deployed for the exercise. State-level training for election officials has already been completed, and meetings with political parties are being conducted at the state, district, and sub-divisional levels to ensure smooth implementation. Helpdesks and toll-free numbers have also been made operational at both the CEO and District Election Officer levels.
Appealing for public participation, CEO Brijesh Pandey urged electors, political parties, civil society organisations, and the media to actively cooperate in making the revision exercise successful.
“No eligible elector should be left out, and no ineligible person should remain enrolled,” Pandey said, while also requesting the media to help generate public awareness and counter misinformation regarding the revision process.
