Suspected child lifter from Bihar severely assaulted by mob in Teliamura
A man from Bihar was severely assaulted by a group of villagers at 16-Goria area of Icharbil village under Teliamura police station in Khowai district on Saturday on suspicion of being a child lifter.
According to reports, police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident and managed to rescue the suspected person from the clutches of the angry mob.
Sources said the injured man was shifted to Teliamura hospital in critical condition. His identity has not yet been established.
Local residents claimed that on Saturday morning, the man had been moving around different parts of the village and was allegedly seen speaking with children in various locations. Suspecting his activities, the villagers detained him. When questioned about why he was interacting with small children and roaming around the village, the man allegedly failed to give a satisfactory response. Enraged, the villagers attacked him indiscriminately, leaving him severely injured.
Some villagers later informed the police that they had caught a “child lifter,” following which police reached the spot and rescued the unknown man.
Police confirmed that the man, believed to be from Bihar, was nearly lynched by the mob on suspicion of being involved in child lifting. They further stated that an investigation has been initiated to establish his identity and verify whether he is linked to any child lifting cases.
