Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said that teachers are the backbone of society and the leaders in building the future.

He said that today’s students will be the leaders of the country in the future. Therefore, along with institutional education, teachers must take responsibility for paving the way for values, as well as the healthy and holistic mental development of students.

Dr Saha said this while inaugurating the three-day Regional School Leadership Workshop and Review Program, jointly organized by the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Delhi, and the School Leadership Academy run by the State NCERT, at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala today.

Speaking at the event, Dr Saha said that in addition to teaching, teachers should come forward with the mindset of contributing positively to society and helping build a healthy and beautiful social environment.

“Providing education to students in a joyful environment helps them develop properly, both mentally and emotionally. For this, every educational institution needs to review and focus on students’ mental health. It is not enough to just earn a degree from an educational institution; one must also continuously learn from society,” he said.

The Chief Minister stated that a new education policy has been adopted so that students can benefit in the future.

“The Prime Minister has said that educated youth are the best human resources of the country and the world. This resource must be directed in the right direction to build a developed India. Efforts should be made to keep students connected to the culture, tradition, and heritage of the country along with science-based education,” Dr Saha said.

He further added that teachers should keep themselves updated with changing times and modern teaching methods.

“The state government has undertaken various projects keeping in mind the present and future of students. Proper monitoring must be ensured during the implementation of these projects. At one time, India’s education system and its educational institutions were world-famous, but they were weakened due to subjugation and foreign aggression. The Prime Minister is working to restore that lost glory through the expansion of education. The state government also wants to be a partner in this effort through a timely and modern education system. The government is working with that goal,” he said.

Secretary of the Education Department Dr. Milind Ramteke, Vice-Chancellor of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration Professor Sasikala Wananjari, Director of SCERT L. Darlong, Director of the Department of School and Basic Education Rajib Dutta, Director of the Department of Kokborok and Other Backward Languages Anandahari Jamatia, Professor of NCSL Dr. Santbana G. Mishra, and other eminent persons were present at the event.
