Teenager drowns while bathing in river at Santirbazar

In a tragic incident, a 15-year-old boy, identified as Shubham Das, lost his life after drowning in a river near the Buddhamandir area on Mahamuni Road in Santirbazar under South Tripura district on Sunday.

Earlier, on Saturday a NIT, Agartala student had also drowned in the Dumboor lake , when he went swimming with his college friends.

 Sources said that Shubham had gone to bathe in the river along with a friend. During the bath, he accidentally slipped underwater and failed to resurface.

Hearing the alarm raised by locals, local people  rushed to the spot and immediately informed the firefighters. With the help of local people and fire service personnel, Shubham was eventually pulled out of the river.

He was rushed to Santirbazar District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead and after autopsy, his body was handed over to the family.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality. Shubham Das was a resident of Shantirbazar, and his untimely death has left the community in deep shock.
