Three-day Swadeshi fair to be held at Vivekananda ground from January 9
A three-day ‘Swadeshi Fair’ will be organized at Vivekananda ground in Agartala from January 9 to January 11 next under the initiative of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) with support from the state government.
The fair will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and other Members of Parliament and Cabinet Ministers will attend the event on different days.
On Monday, Mayor of AMC, Dipak Majumdar, Municipal Commissioner D.K. Chakma, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, SDM (Sadar) Manik Lal Das, and other officials inspected the venue and reviewed the preparations. After the inspection, Mayor Dipak Majumdar stated that ‘Swadeshi Fair’ is being organized for the first time in the state, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” campaign.
The fair will showcase a wide range of products manufactured in Tripura and across India. Every day, different speakers will deliver addresses to promote Swadeshi (indigenous products) awareness and encourage the use of indigenous products. Cultural programs will also be organized daily.
In addition, food stalls representing the cuisines of various communities and tribal groups will be available.
The Prime Minister’s “Swadeshi Jagaran” initiative is closely linked with the concepts of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) and Vocal for Local, which encourage citizens to support domestic industries, reduce dependence on foreign goods, and strengthen economic self-reliance and sovereignty, said Majumder.
He said that as part of this nationwide movement, various programs are being undertaken across states by the government and other organizations. The three-day ‘Swadeshi Fair’ in Agartala is one such initiative taken by the Municipal Corporation to promote indigenous products and support the vision of a self-reliant Tripura. The fair will be open to the general public daily from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, said Mayor.
There will be 60 to 65 stalls, including awareness stalls from different government departments. Products from Patanjali and various ashrams will also be available, said Mayor and added that this will be the first Swadeshi Fair of its kind in the state. The fair aims to promote the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat – Atmanirbhar Tripura and will highlight the mixed cultural heritage of the state. Daily cultural performances and traditional food stalls of different communities and tribal groups will be major attractions, said Mayor.
