In two separate incidents in Baikhura under South Tripura district and in Agartala, local people detained three thieves including two minors with their stolen items and tied them with trees. Later, police rushed to both spots and rescued thieves.
Sources said that a few days ago, three local youths stole a sum of cash from the donation box of a Kali temple located at Kalma Mathulasardar Para under Baikhora police station.
Local villagers said that the money in the temple donation box had been collected by local residents for the worship of Goddess ‘Bipod Tarini’. When the locals found out about the theft, they sat down to settle the matter. In the settlement, everyone decided that each of the three youths would have to pay Rs 4,000 each after they managed to identify three minor thieves and detained two of them.
Following this decision, one youth paid the amount. However, when the other two failed to pay on time, the locals caught the two of them on Saturday and thied them with a tree.
Later, police personnel from Baikhura police station rescued and arrested for theft.
In another incident held at the embankment area of Gandhi Ghat under West Agartala police station, local people caught a thief red-handed while he was trying to steal a battery from an e-Rickshaw.
Local people after severely thrashing, tied him with a tree and informed the incident to the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) of Tripura police.
