Three women arrested for brutal torture on a six years old girl
In a decisive operation, Tripura Police have arrested three individuals involved in the brutal assault on a 6-year-old child at Paresh Colony of Bhagalpur, under Airport police station of West Tripura District and produced them before a local court for further legal proceedings.
Giving details, SPPO (NCC) Subrata Barman a specific case was registered on Saturday under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 after police noticed a video in different social media, in which a six years old girl child’s hands and legs were tied after alleged physical torture.
He said that an investigation revealed that the three accused allegedly tied the child’s hands and legs and subjected her to severe physical torture earlier this week, suspecting her of stealing Rs 20 from a neighbour’s house.
The incident triggered widespread outrage across the state after a video of the torture surfaced on social media and went viral.
SDPO said that the victim girl had been living under vulnerable circumstances, as her mother had earlier eloped with another man, leaving the child in the care of her father, who is a daily wage labourer.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) also filed a formal complaint against the accused at the concerned police station, seeking stringent action.
He added all three accused ladies identified as Smt Dipali Banik (41), Smt Kajali Sarkar (50) and Smt. Manti Biswas (35) was produced before the court on Saturday afternoon with police remand appeals for further legal proceedings.
Authorities assured that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of children.
Tripura police headquarters through a statement said that Tripura Police reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance against crimes targeting children and vulnerable groups.
On Saturday, local MLA Nayan Das along with other CPI(M) leaders also visited the victim girl's house and met the victim girl. Das claiming the incident ‘barbaric’, also demanded stringent action against all accused women.
