Reacting over the daylong political activities by senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders from West Bengal in Agartala over alleged vandalism on their party headquarters, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday claimed TMC has now been reduced to a "signboard" in Tripura.

Speaking with media persons at Agartala after a government programme on Wednesday afternoon, the Chief Minister said the arrival of its delegation in Agartala was an attempt to divert attention from the attack on BJP’s MP and MLA in North Bengal during a flood relief operation.

On Wednesday morning a six-member TMC delegation from Kolkata reached the state capital after its state headquarters was allegedly vandalized in Agartala by BJP activists.

Dr Saha said that a group of people executed a deadly attack on BJP’s MP and MLA in North Bengal while they were distributing relief materials among flood-affected families. Now, they are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Siliguri. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage and TMC is now trying to vitiate the environment in Tripura to divert the issue, said Dr Saha.

He said the public outrage has also touched all Northeastern states and all BJP units have also organized protest rallies. Similarly, a protest rally has also been organized in Agartala to protest against attacks on MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh.

During a protest rally in Agartala on Tuesday,  two or three people went to the Trinamool Congress office but could not do anything as the police already guarded the office before the protest rally reached that place, said Dr Saha.

He also said that he heard that three-four people from Kolkata arrived in Agartala and there are no problems and they can visit any part of the state and do whatever they planned.

He reiterated that amidst nationwide anger over the attack on BJP leader during relief operation in North Bengal, which is a national issue, TMC has been trying to divert the nation's attention and trying to create a political ruckus in Tripura, who are always involved in political violence.
