Tragic suicide of parents, physically challenged daughter: CM order enquiry

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has expressed his deep grief over the suicide of three persons of a family at the ward number 11 of Thakur Para under Melaghar police station of Sepahijala district and order for enquiry by the District Magistrate (DM) of Sepahijala district.

A press statement issued by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department said that soon after the senior police officials including the SP of the district rushed to the spot and collected all evidence.

The statement added that police investigation is going on over the tragic deaths of parents and their daughter, in which elderly couple Chintaharan Paul and his wife Pratima Paul, was a physically disabled daughter Monica Paul, were found dead in their bed, when their relatives and local villagers noticed none of them awake from the sleep after sunrise on Friday morning.

As per the statement of the brother of the deceased man, the report of starvation and huge loan burden is not correct and the deceased woman was a mid-day meal worker in a local Anganwadi centre.

Primary investigation revealed that depressed by the condition of their physically challenged daughter and her illness, the couple had committed suicide and had also consumed poison to their daughter, said the government statement and added that their deaths never be related with financial crisis.

It may be recalled here that police sources said that during investigation they found heavy smell of pesticide and primary investigation suggests that elderly coupled killed their physically disabled daughter by consuming poison and both of them had also committed suicide by consuming pesticide.

Police added that the nature of the death could be unveiled after the autopsy report and they have also started investigation to unearth the mystery of the death of three persons of a family.

Meanwhile, the leader of opposition, Animesh Debbarma, and the Centre Minister of State, Pratima Bhowmik, visited the house of victim family and met relatives while the CPI (M) organized protest rally alleging that the family committed suicide due to poverty.

Opposition leader, Animesh Debbarma, arrived at the scene in the morning and expressing his deep concern over the unprecedented loss of three family members, Debbarma called for a thorough investigation and pledged to write a letter to the Chief Minister seeking justice for the deceased.

Central Minister of State, Pratima Bhowmik offered condolences and inquired about the family's current situation.
