Tripura CM attends King George’s Medical University’s alumni meet

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is an alumnus of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has attended the 119th foundation day ceremony as chief guest  and the international alumni meet of the medical university on Friday.

KGMU vice chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand said 63 students will be honoured with awards during the foundation day.

Chief Minister Dr Saha through his social media post said “Attended ‘International Georgian Alumni Meet 2023’ as Chief Guest at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center, KGMU-Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Being in the institution from which we have received our education is a matter of huge pride. At the event, I appealed everyone to be companions in the journey of #ViksitBharat.”

They will receive a total of 107 medals, with MBBS students leading the pack with 26 gold medals.

BDS students follow closely with 18 golds while nursing boasts two exceptional gold medal recipients, she said.

The ceremony will recognise the achievements through silver and bronze medals as well. MBBS students (20), BDS students (23) and two nursing students will receive these accolades. Two nursing students will be awarded cash prizes, with one bagging the prestigious Late Dr Janhvi Dutt Pandey award as first runner up. Also, two awards will be bestowed for contributions to sports. She said Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak and former head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at KGMU, Prof Vinita Das will be guests of honour while the state minister Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh and principal secretary Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma will be special guests.

KGMU spokesperson Prof Sudhir Singh said the international alumni meet will offer a chance to former students to reminisce about their KGMU days and for the first time a CME has also been organised in which medical scientists working in medically advanced countries will give lectures of their research and other topics.
