Tripura Engineer and Netaji School alumnus becomes head of World's largest oil refinery in Gujarat
Debangsu Ray, an outstanding engineer and alumnus of Tripura’s Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan, has been appointed as the head of the Jamnagar Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat, the world’s largest oil refinery, owned by Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).
Engineer Ray, originally from Tripura with deep roots in Agartala, completed his schooling in Tripura and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from NIT Warangal (now in Telangana), where he graduated with a gold medal.
RIL operates the world’s largest refinery and petrochemical complex at Jamnagar, which spans an area comparable to the size of Mumbai.
Before joining Reliance Industries, Engineer Ray led the International Trade Division of Indian Oil Corporation, where he implemented significant structural changes in the sourcing of crude oil, resulting in substantial benefits for India.
After more than three decades at Indian Oil, Ray joined RIL in late 2015 as the head of one of the sites at Jamnagar. He later moved on to become the Head of Technology for the Jamnagar Supersite. Last month, he was promoted to lead the entire supersite, succeeding the previous head.
Now 64 years old, Engineer Ray, the second son of Dhirendra Kumar Ray and Khela Ray, is a respected and renowned figure in the oil and gas sector, known for his deep expertise and approachable nature.
It is a source of great pride and joy for Tripura that one of its own has reached such a prestigious position in the global corporate world, leading the world's largest refinery.
