Tripura police seized huge quantities of contraband items, arrested 5 drug peddlers

Tripura police through its anti-drug operations in different parts of the state have achieved major success and seized huge quantities of contraband items with the arrest of five drug peddlers.

Police sources said that during regular checking of vehicles at National Highway-8 portion of Bethbagan area of Ambassa under Dhalai district, police detained a suspected lorry loaded with onions.

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered a total of 109 big bags of contraband cough syrup, worth rupees crores hidden under the onion packets. Police arrested truck driver and its co-driver, who were hails from Madhya Pradesh under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.

In another operation, police arrested two drug peddlers from Teliamura area under Khowai district and recovered huge quantities of Brown Sugar under their possessions.

Police sources said that based on intelligence input, police raided the Trishabari area near Teliamura rail station and arrested two suspected youths who were moving in that area to deliver their drug consignment. During the search, police recovered 115 grams of Brown Sugar, worth Rs. 5 lakh under the possession of Dipayan Ghosh and Agrajit Gope of Mohanpur area.

In another operation, the North Tripura district police in association with police personnel from Bishalgarh police station arrested a fugitive truck owner involved with smuggling of dry Cannabis (Ganja).

Police sources said that truck owner Debasish Saha of Office Tilla area of Bishalgarh was on the run for the last one year under an NDPS Act case registered at Churaibari police station.

On June 6th, 2024 last, Churaibari police station during a search in lorry (WB-73-D-5911) recovered a total of 275 kilograms of Ganja, worth Rs. 50 lakh. During investigation of the case, police registered a specific case under NDPS Act against truck owner Debasish Saha, but were unable to arrest him for the last one year. Finally, on Sunday with help of Bishalgarh police station, the North Tripura district police arrested him from his residence in Office Tilla area.
