Tripura protestors demand closure of the camps of the Bangladeshi armed group, PCJSS (Santu)
About 1,000 protestors under the banner of Amarpur Sub-Division Conscious Citizens’ Forum today protested at Amarpur, Gomati district and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha seeking action seeking ouster of the Bangladeshi armed group Parbattyo Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Larma.
In the memorandum, the protestors stated, “The issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh is very serious. While illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh regularly enter Tripura through various border points, the organised illegal immigration is being done by the Parbattyo Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Larma. All their over ground leaders and cadres of the PCJSS from Bangladesh have been settling into Tripura while their armed cadres have established camps in border areas inside Tripura. On 3 June 2025, 13 members of the Santu group were arrested from Hapania, Agartala, while receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained illegally entering India and this shows the extent of their infiltration into India.”
The protestors further stated, “the PCJSS (Santu) group members are directly involved in illegal drug trade trafficking, smuggling of Burmese cigarettes, cattle trafficking and arms smuggling. The PCJSS (Santu) is receiving financial and political support from Pakistan’s ISI apart from Bangladesh.”
Apart from settling at Nandan Nagar and Nagicherra in Agartala city, the PCJSS (Santu) established armed camps at Narayanpur/ Mog Para, Lakkhidar Para, Korollyachari, Kamalakha under Gandachara Sub-Division, Midhingechari under Kanchanpur Sub-Division, Sushenpara (Baghechara) under Amarpur Division along Indo-Bangladesh border.
Whenever Indian citizens visit the border areas, the PCJSS (Santu) cadres demand taxes. The Indian citizens cannot do any activity along the border areas because of the threats and intimidation from the PJCSS (Santu). Inside Tripura also, the PCJSS (Santu) cadres threaten Indian citizens including through their Indian agents.
The protestors submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to take immediate strict action to secure Tripura’s borders, arrest and push back all PCJSS (Santu) leaders and cadres and destroy the camps of the PCJSS (Santu) group.
