In yet another deadly traffic incident on the state's highways, two people were killed on the spot on Saturday evening after a motorcycle crashed into a moving vehicle in the Jaruailbari area near the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office, along the Assam–Agartala National Highway (NH-8).
According to preliminary reports, the motorcycle rammed directly into the rear of an out-of-state registered vehicle. The impact killed both the rider and the pillion rider instantly. The crash caused heavy traffic congestion along NH-8 and sparked brief tension in the area before police arrived to clear the road and begin an investigation. Formal identification of the two victims is still underway.
Today's tragedy adds to a sharp surge in fatal two-wheeler accidents across Tripura this week, following a 48-hour stretch that left five youths dead and four others critically injured:
On Tuesday (September 8) afternoon, Biswajit Munda (25) and Bishu Munda (26) died on the spot when their motorcycle overturned near a petrol pump while returning from fishing. A third rider, Tapan Gowala (26), sustained life-threatening injuries and was transferred to GB Hospital in Agartala.
On Sunday (September 6) evening, a head-on collision between two speeding motorcycles near Dasharath Deb Memorial School on the Sabroom–Agartala National Highway killed Mukesh Tripura (19), Sani Deol Tripura (18), and Sanjib Tripura (19). Four others, including Prahar Tripura (19) and two young women, sustained critical injuries.
The string of high-speed crashes has intensified concerns over reckless driving and highway safety throughout the state, with police continuing inquiries into each incident.
