The smuggling of dry Cannabis (Ganja) through different means of transportation, especially by long distance trains from Tripura to Bihar state has been continued and unabated.
On Wednesday, smugglers tried to deliver their consignment by changing the route from Agartala Railway station to Jogendranagar station, but alert police foiled their bid and arrested two lady smugglers along with dry Ganja before their boarding to a long distance train from Jogendranagar station.
Giving details, OC of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee said that based on secret information, a contingent of police including women personnel raided Jogendranagar station and noticed suspected movements of two women, who were ready to board a long distance train.
Police detained them and during checking on their baggage, recovered large quantities of dry Ganja weighing 8.4 kg under their possession, said Chatterjee and added that two arrested women were identified as Putul Devi and Sangita Deb, who were trying to deliver their consignment to Bihar state.
Both arrested women were produced before a local court with police remand appeals in a specific case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 for interrogation to get details of their network.
