Vijay Diwas celebration: Manipur CM asked Myanmar nationals not to construct any village

Imphal : Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Saturday asked Myanmarese nationals who are fleeing Myanmar and are taking shelter in Manipur not to construct their own villages in the state.

Biren made the statement during the observance of Vijay Diwas (Indo-Pak War 1971) held at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall in Imphal organized by the state government.

Speaking at the observance, the Manipur Chief Minister while applauding and appreciating all security forces, police in the State for their effort in tackling the present situation and in bringing back peace in the State, said “Sometimes, misunderstandings creep up, but through joint efforts of all security forces, State police and with support of the people, the situation has improved”.

Biren, strongly cautioning against taking what is happening in the border areas lightly, said “what is happening in Myanmar cannot be taken easily as more are coming inside Manipur for shelter”. He also said that efforts are underway in the areas of Kamjong and Ukhrul using biometrics under the concerned DCs.

“Security forces should also not neglect areas like Behiang and other places which are bordering Myanmar and should take it seriously considering reports of aggressive fighting in the neighbouring country”, he said.

Highlighting the need to open proper camps with biometric and civil police teams in different border areas, the Manipur CM said that we cannot deny humanitarian assistance to those fleeing their country due to the violence and we are providing medicines and tents for them. However, we need to identify them by collecting biometric data and provide temporary shelter, he added.

Regarding the observance of Vijay Diwas, Biren said that it is the responsibility of every Indian to strengthen Bharat and that there can be no compromise in making One India, Strong India. The Manipur CM further added that as part of India’s Foreign Policy, it is very important to maintain a good diplomatic relation with the neighbouring countries.

The observance was attended by Ministers, MLAs, Security Advisor, Chief Secretary, high ranking civil and police officers.

Later the Manipur CM N Biren accompanied by Minister  Susindro Meitei also inspected the ongoing construction work of the Manipur Police Headquarter at Mantripukhri in Imphal West which is expected to be completed by March next year.
