In another successful operation against drug trafficking, Dharmanagar police (North Tripura district)  on Saturday managed to  arrest a woman drug peddler with a large consignment of Yaba tablets during a special anti-drug operation.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out by the intelligence wing based on specific inputs. The successful raid was led by Dharmanagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mina Debbarma.

Giving details of the operation, OC, Mina Debbarma said that acting on a tip-off, a team from Dharmanagar police station conducted a targeted raid along the Dharmanagar Railway Station road, where the woman was intercepted. During the search, police recovered 1,960 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh in the illicit market.

She said that the arrested woman has been identified as Shukla Debnath (37). She is a permanent resident of Kamalasagar Devipur area under Sepahijala district, but she has been residing in a rented house at Chandrapur area of Agartala for some time.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to identify the source of the narcotics and possible links to a wider drug trafficking network.

Police added that arrested drug peddler will be produced before a local court on Sunday with police remand appeal for further interrogation in a specific case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
