Egypt condemns deadly Israeli raid in West Bank
Cairo: Egypt condemned on Monday the Israeli raid in the northern West Bank city of Jenin under air support that left four Palestinians killed and wounded at least 62.
Egypt categorically rejected "the attack which violates all international laws and resolutions of international legitimacy," the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Sustained assaults on the Palestinian people would undermine efforts to reduce tension in the occupied territories and lead to escalation with grave consequences, it added.
An hours-long gun battle broke out between armed Palestinians and the Israeli forces who raided Jenin under the support of Apache helicopters in the early morning, to detain two Palestinians suspected of attacking Israelis.
The Israeli military said multiple explosive devices were hurled at the forces and a roadside bomb detonated next to a military vehicle, triggering the forces to respond with live fire.
At least four Palestinians were killed and 62 were injured during the clashes, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, adding the injured were sent to Jenin governmental hospital for medical treatment, including six in a critical condition.
