Karachi witnesses massive protests over 50-hour-long power outage
Pakistan's Karachi city witnessed massive protests in recent times after several areas remained without power following heavy rains on August 19.
According to reports, the region remained powerless for nearly 50 hours.
Residents of University Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Moinabad, Bustan Society, Amirabad and adjoining areas said power went out around 2.30pm on Tuesday, the day of the downpour, and had yet to be restored, reported The Express Tribune.
The areas also remained waterless, adding misery for the local residents.
Angry protesters demonstrated outside the K-Electric offices.
They shouted slogans after the authority ignored their repeated complaints.
In Malir, protesters blocked the Mehran Depot route, halting the Peoples Bus Service, while in Liaquat Market roads were closed, causing severe traffic jams in Model Colony, Jinnah Avenue and nearby streets, the newspaper reported.
