Xiaomi car catches fire in China, driver burns to death after door fails to open
A driver was killed after a Xiaomi Corp. SU7 electric sedan caught fire following a crash in the Chinese city of Chengdu on Monday, sending the company’s shares down more than 5%, according to CNBC.

Police said the 31-year-old driver died after the SU7 collided with another sedan.
Preliminary investigations suggest he may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.
Bystanders were unable to open the vehicle’s electronic doors to rescue the driver as the car burst into flames.
They later used fire extinguishers to bring the fire under control.
Xiaomi has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
The crash has raised safety concerns over the use of electronic door handles—features popularised by Tesla and now common among modern electric vehicles.
