Congress and RJD insulting Chhathi Maiya: PM Modi tears apart Mahagathbandhan in Bihar
Muzaffarpur/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are insulting Chhathi Maiya, in a sharp attack on Mahagathbandhan in poll-bound Bihar.
Addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur, Modi said, "You've seen that your this son is busy making the praises of Chhathi Maiya echo around the world. On the other hand, these Congress and RJD people are insulting Chhathi Maiya.
"Can anyone ever insult Chhathi Maiya just to get votes in an election? Can such an insult be tolerated by Bihar, Hindustan, and my mothers who observe the Nirjala fast?"
"The women who observe such a long fast without water.... The women who stand in the Ganga Ji and offer Arghya to Lord Surya.
In the eyes of RJD-Congress, they are putting on a drama. Will the mothers and sisters of Bihar tolerate this insult to Chhathi Maiya? I know that no person from Bihar can forget this insult to Chhathi Maiya.
"Enhancing Bihar's pride, taking Bihar's sweet dialect and Bihar's culture to every corner of the world, and developing Bihar is the topmost priority of the NDA and BJP. When India was prosperous, economically, and the greatest power in knowledge and science, Bihar played a very significant role in it. Therefore, for building a developed India today, Bihar's development is also extremely essential," the Prime Minister added.
Modi said this in response to Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's remark on the Prime Minister over Chhat Puja.
At a rally in Bihar, Rahul criticised Modi’s participation in Chhath Puja-related rituals, calling one of his acts a “swimming pool drama” while referencing the PM’s Yamuna dip.
He accused Modi of doing things for votes, and implied that the sincerity of his Chhath Puja participation was questionable.
The ruling BJP responded sharply alleging Rahul disrespected both Chhathi Maiya and the Prime Minister, who is the supreme leader of the saffron camp.
Why does it matter?
Chhath Puja is a deeply revered festival in Bihar and other parts of India, so any critique linking political figures to it becomes highly sensitive.
By bringing Modi’s ritual act into the political campaign, Rahul is framing it as not just religious observance but as political theatre aimed at garnering votes.
The BJP sees this as an attack on both the festival’s sanctity and Modi’s image, and is using it for electoral messaging.
