According to ED sources, officials of the central agency went to Banerjee’s residence as part of the ongoing probe.
However, they were unable to hand over the notice directly as he was not present at home at the time of their visit.
Summons issued for June 15
Sources in the probe agency said Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned to appear before ED investigators on June 15 in connection with the primary recruitment case.
The agency is expected to question him as part of its efforts to advance the investigation and reach what officials described as a logical conclusion in the matter.
His statement may also be formally recorded during the appearance.
Abhishek Banerjee not present at home
When the ED officials arrived at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence on Wednesday afternoon, he was reportedly not at home.
Sources indicated that he was present at an office located adjacent to the residence of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, and due to that, the officials could not personally serve the notice to him during their visit.
Name featured in investigation documents
The development comes against the backdrop of the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities in the primary teacher recruitment process.
Abhishek Banerjee’s name had previously appeared in the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.
However, he was not named as an accused in the charge sheet.
His name also figured in the charge sheet submitted by the Enforcement Directorate as part of its parallel investigation into the matter.
According to ED sources, the decision to summon Banerjee is linked to the agency’s efforts to gather further information and complete key aspects of the probe.
The primary recruitment case has remained one of the most closely watched investigations in West Bengal, with multiple agencies examining alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
