Indian Air Force trainer aircraft crashes near Chennai, pilot ejects safely
Chennai/IBNS: An Indian Air Force (IAF) trainer aircraft crashed near Tambaram in Chennai on Friday afternoon while on a routine training sortie, officials confirmed.
The pilot managed to eject safely, and no injuries or damage to civilian property were reported.
According to an official statement, the Pilatus PC-7 Mk II aircraft went down around 2:25 pm.
The IAF said immediate rescue protocols were activated, and the pilot was safely recovered soon after the ejection.
The IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
Preliminary details indicate no operational or ground-level casualties, and authorities have secured the crash site.

In a statement on X, the IAF said: “An Indian Air Force PC-7 Mk II trainer aircraft met with an accident during a routine training mission near Tambaram, Chennai, today. The pilot ejected safely, and no damage to civil property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
The Pilatus PC-7 Mk II is widely used by the IAF for Stage-I pilot training.
Friday’s incident adds to the list of recent trainer aircraft accidents under investigation as the Air Force reviews operational and technical safety protocols.
