Park Street gangrape convict's name back in spotlight after Kolkata woman alleges molestation in 5-star hotel
Kolkata/IBNS: A Kolkata woman has accused a group of men of molesting and assaulting her at a nightclub of a five-star hotel in the city, media reports said.
On the night of October 26, the complainant said she was partying with her husband, brother and friends when a separate group of men started arguing with her group and soon the altercation turned violent.
The complainant has identified the accused as Naser Khan and Junaid Khan, who were present with their associates.
Questions are raised whether Naser is the one who was convicted in the 2012 Park Street gangrape case that had shaken the state politics.
Police are yet to confirm whether it was the same Naser, who served a jail term and was released in 2020.
Speaking to The Times of India, Naser said he was at home when the reported incident occurred. "I am a changed man. I look after my business of manufacturing industrial thermometers and stay away from trouble," he told the daily.
Junaid, however, said Naser was present as TOI reported.
The complainant alleged Naser was among those who attacked her and also tried to touch her inappropriately, India Today reported.
She alleged when her brother tried to intervene, he was attacked with a bottle. They were also prevented from escaping the situation as the accused called additional people to attack her group.
The woman claimed she dialled 100 for police help but the club doors were blocked. As a result, she and her family had to hide in the club's liquor room.
According to a report by India Today, police said the table where the complainant and her group were seated was booked in the name of one of the accused, indicating the two groups may have actually known each other.
