The incident comes just a day after TMC national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked in Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas, a region once considered a Trinamool Congress stronghold.

Tension escalated outside the police station as a crowd gathered, waving black flags and shouting "thief" slogans upon seeing Kalyan Banerjee.

The Serampore MP claimed he suffered a head injury during the confrontation.

"All this happened in front of the police. I was hit on my head, and I am bleeding," Banerjee told Hindustan Times.

Following the incident, he staged a dharna outside the police station, accusing law enforcement authorities of failing to protect him and take action against the alleged attackers.

Banerjee alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters were behind the attack.

"BJP members used abusive language and hit me on the head with a deuce ball. I am bleeding at present," he told reporters.

He further questioned whether elected Members of Parliament should be subjected to such attacks in public.

The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations. BJP leader Debjit Sarkar mocked Banerjee's claims in a post on X, writing, "TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee needs to rehearse his drama better next time."

Sarkar further stated: "He claims that BJP workers hit him. Yet, immediately afterward, he dramatically falls to the ground with his phone still pressed to his ear and continues talking on the call without any interruption."

The development follows a similar confrontation involving Abhishek Banerjee on Friday. The Diamond Harbour MP was surrounded by protesters while meeting party workers allegedly affected by post-election violence following the Trinamool Congress's defeat in the Assembly elections.

Videos circulating on social media showed demonstrators shouting slogans and throwing eggs as Banerjee moved through the crowd wearing a cricket helmet.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee later claimed that the helmet may have prevented a serious injury.

"I have been informed that had a helmet not been placed on his head at the crucial moment, the consequences could have been fatal," she said.
