'What are you doing?’ Indian-origin man’s question turns deadly in Canada after confronting urinating stranger
An Indian-origin businessman has died following an unprovoked assault in Canada's Edmonton after confronting a stranger who was urinating on his car, local media reported.
The victim, identified as Arvi Singh Sagoo, 55, was attacked on October 19 while returning to his car with his girlfriend after dinner.
According to a report by Global News, Sagoo confronted the man, asking, “Hey, what are you doing?” The suspect allegedly replied, “Whatever I want,” before walking up and punching Sagoo in the head.
Sagoo fell to the ground and was rendered unconscious. His girlfriend immediately called 911, and paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he was placed on life support.
He succumbed to his injuries five days later, his brother told reporters.
The Edmonton Police Service has arrested the suspect, Kyle Papin, and charged him with aggravated assault.
Authorities told the media that the investigation remains ongoing and further charges could be added pending the autopsy results.
A GoFundMe fundraiser launched by Sagoo’s close friend, Vincent Ram, aims to support the victim’s two children and help cover funeral and living expenses.
“This fundraiser aims to support a very kind and loving father and ensure his children have the resources they need during this difficult time,” the message read.
Sagoo, described by friends as a devoted father and respected community member, had lived in Edmonton for several years and was active in the local Sikh community.
