Backlash over egg‑freezing advice? Upasana Konidela sets the record straight!
Entrepreneur and Telugu actor Ram Charan's wife Upasana Konidela has reacted to the controversy that erupted after she batted in favour of egg freezing to prioritise career without giving into societal pressure of marriage.
Recently at an event in Hyderabad where she was interacting with the students of IIT, Upasana said women should consider freezing their eggs to focus on career without worrying about marriage.
Upasana called the egg freezing "the biggest insurance for women" as it allows them to "choose when to get married".
The remark drew massive backlash on social media with a section of netizens accusing her of double standards citing she got married at 23 but advising others to delay wedding and child birth.
Hitting back at the trolls, Upasana wrote on X, "Is it wrong for a woman to marry for love instead of giving in to societal pressure? Is it wrong for her to wait until she finds the right partner? Is it wrong for a woman to choose when she wants to have children based on her circumstances?
"Is it wrong for a woman to set goals and focus on her career rather than only thinking of marriage or having children early?"
I’m happy to have sparked a healthy debate & thank your for your respectful responses.

Fact-checking the trolls, she wrote, "I married for love and companionship at 27 — a choice I made on my own terms. At 29, I decided to freeze my eggs for personal and health reasons, something I’ve always spoken about openly to encourage other women to explore their options. (for the record it wasn't at Apollo ). I welcomed my first child at 36 and am now expecting twins at 39.
"Throughout my journey, I have given equal importance to building my career and nurturing my marriage, because a happy, stable environment matters deeply when raising a family. For me, marriage and career are not competing priorities — they are equally meaningful parts of a fulfilled life. But I decide the timeline! That's not privilege it's my right!!!"
Upasana married Ram Charan in 2012, when she was 27.
She froze her eggs at age 29, as she has said in public. Her first child was born when she was 36.
She has spoken openly about depression and stress‑eating in the past.
