Dainee is a binge-worthy show: Mimi Chakraborty
Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actress Mimi Chakraborty has returned to the OTT space with Hoichoi's Dainee, a survival drama directed by Nirjhar Mitra.
Dainee is a survival battle of two sisters against the superstition that dominates several sections of the society even in the 21st century.
It intertwines the harrowing reality of this practice with the gripping story of two sisters, Pata and Lata, delivering a powerful and thought-provoking narrative.

Mimi, who made her OTT debut with Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo in 2024, plays Pata who has always neglected her younger sister Lata, portrayed by Koushani Mukherjee, eventually abandoning her altogether.
Recently at a press conference in Kolkata, Mimi shared that she wondered whether such a superstition still exists in the present world.
"When Nirjhar offered me the script, I wondered whether the subject is relevant in present time. He backed his idea with data including a documentary. Then I started studying it, searched on the internet, and watched small documentaries on YouTube," she said.
"Adding to this, the title Dainee is also symbolic to our society," the actress added.

Cut to the trailer again, years after abandoning her sister, Pata following their father’s death returns to her ancestral home to claim her share of the inheritance—only to realize she cannot do so in Lata’s absence.
Thus begins a desperate search. What she discovers is nothing short of horrifying—Lata, half-dead and bound, as a frenzied mob prepares to burn her alive.
They manage a narrow escape, reaching a hospital, but the nightmare is far from over. An enraged crowd gathers outside, while the sisters remain trapped inside.
Most of the 'Dainee' team members quite surprisingly were from the North Bengal town of Jalpaiguri, which is Mimi's hometown.
"The entire team was from Jalpaiguri. We the natives of the town pulled off the work (laughs). The entire team has been extremely dedicated and planning-oriented. They had completed the entire sketch of the film including shooting locations by the time I was roped in," she says.

Speaking of the action sequences, Mimi said, "We have a 13-14-minute climax scene of an entirely situational fight sequence. I had to go through a proper rehearsal for fight sequences because otherwise I would have been injured (smiles).."
"I would request the audience to watch Dainee carving out some time on Holi. I can guarantee that the viewers won't be able to leave the series midway once they start watching it," the Tollywood A-lister, whose last theatrical release was Bangladeshi flick Toofan, added.
Nirjhar, whose 2023 web series Shikarpur starring Ankush Hazra was a success, is seemingly excited for the audience to experience the thriller.
"The survival drama was important because this genre has been rarely explored in Bengali. The series is set to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. I am very excited for the action sequence which comes at the fag end of the series," Nirjhar said.
