Despite tight security along the India-Bangladesh border, the infiltration from neighbouring Bangladesh into Tripura continued and unabated, again on Friday three Bangladeshi women along with one Indian human trafficker were arrested by the Agartala Airport police station.
The infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued and in the last few months dozens of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state.
In the recent past, dozens of Bangladeshis, Rohingyas and human traffickers (Touts) were arrested from different parts of the state by security forces including from Agartala Railway station.
Giving details, officer-in-charge (OC) of Airport police station, Shyamal Debnath said based on the secret information over the movements of some suspected Bangladeshi women near Agartala Airport, police team rushed to the spot and detained three Bangladeshi women from Khulna district and one Indian tout, identified as Mazarul Islam, a resident under Jatrapur police station of Sepahijala district.
During preliminary interrogation, all arrested Bangladeshi women confessed that they entered into Indian territory through Sonamura border with help of tout Mazarul Islam and were about to board a flight to Guwahati.
Police also recovered air tickets under the possession of Indian tout and all four arrested persons were produced before a court on Friday with five days police remand appeals for further investigation into the case.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shyamal Debnath said that police investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances of their entry into India and to identify any wider human trafficking network involved in the case.
He said that they entered India two days back without any valid documents, and had plans to travel to Guwahati.
An investigation is underway to identify those who helped them enter India, Debnath said and added that police have registered a specific case under sections of the Passports Act, the Foreigners Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and all arrested persons were produced before a local court on Friday for further legal proceedings. He also said that all those involved in the case will be arrested and police launch another operation to arrest human traffickers involved with infiltration of Bangladeshi into Tripura’s territory.
