Mumbai: Actress Shefali Jariwala, popularly known as the ‘Kanta Laga girl,’ passed away on Friday in Mumbai, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest.
NDTV reported that the 42-year-old had been undergoing anti-ageing treatment for the past five to six years.
While doctors at Cooper Hospital are yet to release the post-mortem report, a source told NDTV that Shefali had been taking medications like Vitamin C and Glutathione.
“Glutathione is a drug utilized for skin fairness and detoxification. These medications do not have a direct effect on the heart and are strictly cosmetic treatments," a doctor told the publication.
Following the incident, Mumbai Police arrived at her Andheri residence to investigate the circumstances around her death.
Initially taken to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri West, Shefali was later moved to Cooper Hospital for the post-mortem.
Shefali became a household name after starring in the hit remix video Kanta Laga. She went on to appear in reality dance shows Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7 with her husband Parag Tyagi, and was also a contestant in Bigg Boss 13.
Speaking to the media, her friend Ankur said the actress had no known health issues and was in good shape.
He added that police had taken statements from her neighbours and domestic help.
Several of her Bigg Boss 13 co-contestants, including Hindustani Bhau, Vikas Gupta, and Arti Singh, were seen at Cooper Hospital. Hindustani Bhau, who considered Shefali his sister, broke down while talking about her sudden demise.
